Job Summary:
The Tax Preparer/Tax Associate will provide expert tax preparation services for clients of a wealth management and insurance company. This role involves preparing and reviewing individual and corporate tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, and offering tax planning advice to help clients minimize liabilities and achieve their financial goals. The Tax Associate will collaborate closely with financial advisors and other departments to deliver integrated financial services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Tax Preparation:
- Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts, focusing on clients with complex wealth management needs. (1040, 1041, PA-40, PA-41) and possibly tax returns from other states
- Review and analyze client financial records, investment portfolios, and insurance documents to ensure accurate tax filings.
- Assist in filing tax extensions and responding to IRS or state tax notices.
- Tax Planning & Advisory:
- Provide proactive tax planning strategies to high-net-worth individuals and business clients, aligning with their wealth management and insurance strategies.
- Identify opportunities for tax savings and advise clients on structuring investments, retirement plans, and insurance policies to minimize tax liabilities.
- Stay informed about changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact wealth management and insurance clients.
- Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure all tax filings comply with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Assist in managing tax audits and responding to inquiries from tax authorities.
- Collaborate with the compliance department to ensure adherence to industry standards, particularly in the financial and insurance sectors.
- Client Communication & Support:
- Communicate with clients to gather the necessary financial information and documents for tax preparation.
- Provide timely updates on tax deadlines, changes in tax law, and strategies for managing tax implications related to investments and insurance policies.
- Maintain strong client relationships, offering ongoing support and advice as part of a holistic wealth management approach.
- Collaboration with Wealth Management Teams:
- Work closely with financial advisors, estate planners, and insurance professionals to provide clients with integrated financial solutions.
- Offer tax insights that align with broader wealth management strategies, such as estate planning, retirement strategies, and risk management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or EA certification preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in tax preparation, preferably in a wealth management or financial services environment.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, particularly those impacting high-net-worth individuals and corporations.
- Advanced degree or CPA required
- Familiarity with financial planning and insurance products, with an understanding of their tax implications.
- Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., ProSeries or similar) and financial systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients.
- Registered tax preparer with active PTIN a plus;
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and understanding of tax strategies for managing wealth and investments.
- Experience preparing IRS forms 706 and 709, 990-PF and PA Inheritance Tax returns a plus; Demonstrated analytical abilities, including problem solving and decision making;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines during tax season.
Schedule: Monday to Friday
